Sofia is the capital and the largest city in Bulgaria. Here are the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, many universities, theaters, cinemas, as well as the National Gallery, churches, archaeological, historical, natural and other museums. In many places in the center of the city are preserved visible archaeological monuments of Roman times.
Sofia is named after the late antique cathedral of the city of Saint Sofia and the city’s feast is on September 17th. The motto of the capital is “Grow, but not aging”.
As the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia is constantly hosting many cultural, musical, sporting and other events, and the numerous theaters and galleries in Sofia offer an interesting and varied program.
The city is one of the preferred destinations for congress tourism and exhibitions – many congress centers offer a variety of opportunities. The National Palace of Culture, for example, often hosts business forums and exhibitions.
